“Let choice whisper in your ear and love murmur in your heart. Be ready. Here comes life.” ~ Maya Angelou

I have always envied people who knew their calling, who seemed set on a particular path in life, fuelled by passion and instinct, following their dreams without so much as a second thought. When I became a doula, I suddenly saw that previously-elusive path right in front of me, and I haven’t looked back.

As the mother of 2 young girls, it was having a doula present for the birth of my second child that spurred my desire to become oblack and white image of 2 adults laying in bed with newborn baby on woman's chestne myself. I was fortunate to have had amazing midwifery care for both births, and the compassion and support I felt during my own pregnancies
and births truly made me want that for every birthing woman. My own births involved a Caesarean and a subsequent VBAC (vaginal birth after Caesarean). As such, I have great personal experience from which to draw when working with clients, as well as absolute respect for a birthing person’s choices. I confidently support clients in hospital and at home, and feel lucky to live in a part of the world where there are choices available as to where to birth a baby.

I am both a DONA International and a Wise Woman Way of Birth trained birth doula serving Vancouver and surrounding areas. I initially completed my doula training at the world-class Simkin Center near Seattle, a facility founded by the pioneers of what has become the modern doula profession. I subsequently became certified through Wise Woman Way of Birth, which deepened my knowledge and expanded my skill sets to more completely support my clients.

Woman sits in wooden rocking chair, in a sun filled room, holding new baby while man stands nearbyI tailor my support to suit each client’s unique needs, but I always bring warmth, confidence, experience and a sense of humour to every birth. I am rebozo certified and offer TENS use throughout labour, and when necessary can offer numerous suggestions to support the birthing person’s innate strength and wisdom. I work prenatally with clients to fully understand any hopes and/or fears surrounding childbirth, provide resources on a vast array of topics, and discuss labour comfort measures such as movement, positioning, breathing techniques, massage and visualization.

I am fortunate enough to live in a uniquely ‘birthy’ part of North America, where we not only have amazing doulas, midwives and doctors, but also nearly endless other options for birthing families. My passion for photography led me to mentor under the incredibly gifted and successful Morag Hastings of Apple Blossom Families, and I’m thrilled to offer birth photography to families who are interested in capturing the amazing journey of labour and birth.

Being a doula is truly a passion and a dream realized for me. I aim to provide the best possible individualized support for my clients. Contact me with any questions regarding my services or for more information.
